I'm guessing Neal O'Brian will take a shot at this one.

I have an 18" brunette that I picked up a couple of years ago and I never use it because it's just too nice. It's kept uncovered in a dry, unheated garage with a dirt floor so it gets quite dusty and is exposed to temperature changes, but is otherwise pretty sheltered although I don't have an actual cover on it because I don't want to trap moisture or invite rodents.

In this situation is it going to stay in basically like-new condition if I wax it and then dust it off every so often?

I would assume it would stay like that, maybe the bottom triangle will get some surface rust because moisture will come off your concrete floor due to it heating up and cooling off, I think sometimes it gives off some sort of condensation. Oh and I wouldn't even wax it, I'm not that bad...

Regardless of location, its going to age. Dust does have an affect on things. Were talking a really long time. You could wrap it in some kind of plastic that moisture doesn't pentrate.
Maybe an xlarge plastic trash bag..
