K comp vs blue/mesquite

Well, yesterday I went to the store to get charcoal in prep for the St Pat brisket cook. I wanted to use mesquite...I've been in a hickory and apple wood rut lately. They were out of K comp. So, I picked up a bag of K with mesquite chips formed into the bricks. I imagine it's blue with the addition of these chips. First time for me not using chunks of wood intermixed and on top of K comp or Stubbs.

It actually worked out quite well. I used the whole bag of mesquite unlit, and put some blue lit to get it going. Very nice thin blue smoke very quickly into the cook and the mesquite chips embedded in the charcoal just kissed the St Pat's 6.5# brisket. The entire ring was not burnt at the 12 hour mark which is kinda my benchmark: if I get a 12 hour no-babysitting cook I am VERY happy.

Thanks, I've been wondering about the k wood blends. Still, it can't be as good as using chunks right?
