Just got a used Spirit!

Looking for a little help on fixing up a Spirit E310(?). Not sure it's age but it's a 3 burner, right hand control with no side burner and double door cabinet with black end caps. But the igniter seems to be out - is it possible that it's an electric igniter?

OK- just got the thing home - it is an electric igniter- but its a pretty cheap set-up that holds the assembly on just two little clips. Of course, one clip is broken so it's not secured very well to the cart and the little box is rusted out- probably just replacing it even though replacing the battery got it working again. As I suspected, the grates and flavor bars are shot. All the decals are in great shape so serial number is intact. Burners, firebox, cart, and doors all look good. A really good cleaning is certainly in order for this one. Hopefully the burner and crossover tubes won't need replacing. Otherwise- seems to be a good deal even though I have the my Silver B that's been going strong for the last 13+ years. Basically this Spirit seems to be the same thing except the Spirit is the Chinese model.

I have a 2009 model that I bought brand new in 2012 (must have been in the HD warehouse for 3 years?). It seems to be pretty well built and after two winters still looks new.
I am used to the east/west burner configuration and after trying my son's 2013 model Spirit 310, I still kinda like mine better.

@ Collin, I agree I like the east-west config as well, though I've never used a new Weber that has the North-south. People claim you get better control with the Norht-South config. Seems like a logical argument though.

So, I ordered the igniter and got the flavor bars and CI grates for the Spirit and cleaned it up pretty good. Worked the burners pretty good despite not taking them off to do a coal soak. I just brass brushed them down and vacuumed as well as took a needle tool to the holes. Several holes were clogged but they seem to be good now. On the initial firing, big orange flames were present. I re-brushed for about an hour and re-tooled the holes. Now, no more big orange flames but now really good blue flames with a spot here-and-there of orange. Maybe I need to pull the burners for the coal soak(?). I hate to take stuff apart- sorta the ain't broke theory… So depending on how I feel about the disassembly, I may soak the burners rot try and get better flame.

I really want a side burner for this one or my Silver B - that's what really got me looking for anything. I'm thinking the Spirit is probably a better chance to have one added to it- if I can find all the parts!

I have used both. The argument about better control is to me a ruse. It's DIFFERENT control but certainly not better. Frankly I like having heat zones front to back. It also makes for much better rotisserie control. Only reason Weber went to front controls is because of people crying about loss of work space on the side

LM- I agree with you about it being a different way to control the heat. Controlling from left-to-right or front-to-back seems like little difference. I too read in different places that the front-to-back style makes for a better rotisserie thoughI never tried that feature. I do see the point about work space too- seems like a whole other market for add-ons to a grill if you have the side-space. The concept of the inline smoker caused me to go look for one that fits my old Genesis! Which makes me realize, get these things while weber is making the accessory because a time will come when they stop. Due to how long these grills can last, it's pretty hard locating an accessory years after Weber stops making them!

Well I'll tell you I wish Weber DID make some things available longer. My Summit 450 has a rust through opening up on the front of the fire box. Called weber since the rest of the grill is perfect. "oh we don't make that part any more" :-( My beautiful Summit will soon be destined to scrap metal because the firebox will no longer be safe. Unless I can find a fabricator to make a new piece from SS for me

LM- That bites… makes me feel compelled to stock pile parts to keep my stuff going for another 13+ years! I guess Weber needs to make somethings so that people come back.
