Just bought my first WSM

So I was at Walmart tonight debating on the 14.5" or the 18.5" WSM. I asked the person working for a price check on both. The 14.5 ran up at $199.00. The 18.5 ran up at $200.00
That made my choice pretty easy! Was leaning toward the smaller one, but couldn't pass up that price for the 18.5!

How'd I do?

Wow! Someone must of made a mistake! They're usually $299 new. Looks like ya made out like a Bandit! The 18.5"wsm is awesome you'll love it. remember to take pix and post in the photo gallery.

Whaa? I think the bank made an error in your favor monopoly style. Generally webers are priced the same everywhere and that should be $300. Congrats

Thanks for the welcome! I put it together last night. Everything looks great!

One question though, the top grate moves around a lot. If you position it just right it actually will fall through on one side. Is that normal? Will washers between the holders fix that?

If by "just right" you mean "horribly incorrect" than, yeah?

I've got the 22" but I don't think they are designed differently in terms of fit. So if I was blindfolded and tried to place my top grate, it's entirely possible that I would have to fish it out of the bottom......but only if I'm blindfolded.

So a little wiggle room is normal with the grate?

that sounds a bit strange. I have the 18.5 and I can't say it moves much at all.

Once in correct place, I honestly don't think there is much room to wiggle (guessing less then 1/8" of gap). But being that the supports are only about 3/8-1/2 long, my point above was simply that it can fall if you miss a support while placing it.

Sounds like you've got something different going on though. Can you post a pic? Are you sure you're using the right grates in the correct position(putting the small bottom grate on the top)?

LUCKY!!!!! Lowes never does things like that for me, I don't shop at walmart but maybe I should LOL Congrats and welcome the WSM club!

Lateral movement on the top grate is normal, and goes away once any decent weight is put on it (ie rack of ribs).

Now, if you're having issues with tilting motion (ie a bent grate), then that's easy to fix to with some elbow grease. And yes, the top grate can in fact fall in, but it's very hard to do. Unless there's something else up with your unit. The top grate is just slightly wider than the bottom.

Walmart in McKinney off of 380 and Custer. They had 3 left.

I live in Garland.... I may be making a trip to Mckinney for a father day gift for father-in-law. Both of his son-in-laws have a WSM and it's about time he joined the club... For $200 I can't afford not to buy!

Told my BBQ brother at work about this, if a price check comes in at $200 this evening that Walmart is going to sell two more of them today.

Check to see if the center section is out of round. Quick check with a tape measure across the diameter in various directions will tell you. If it is, give it a gentle bear hug until it's fixed.
