Brand new in box. Never used. What was wrong with it you ask?
Photo attached of considerable sized dent in edge of top smoker lid.
I have a good friend who owns a body repair shop that I'm sure
can fix it good as new.
Any one else have past experience with a dented lid?
I'm VERY excited that I have saved at least $200.00 off the
lowest listed price of a 22.5 WSM smoker!!!

With the right tools, your buddy can certainly get the dent out. As for the porcelain enamel finish, it will crack and flake and chip like crazy when he attempts to reshape it.

If you care about function, not looks, after he's done I would carefully remove all the loose porcelain and spray the outside with a few thin coats of high-temp black BBQ paint. As for the inside, where the food lives, I wouldn't spray paint that. I would just let a layer of grease/smoke build up on those areas and hope it protects adequately from rust.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Chris

Thanks for your quick response. I will definitely share your advise with my friend.
I'm excited about my purchase and looking forward to becoming a regular around here. :)

Worst case...if you friend screws up the lid too bad or you aren't happy with the results, you can always order another from Weber Customer Service for less than $200. :)

Chris

I will update everyone after tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed. I know that it needs to be as close to original but I've read where others experience "out of round" issues. This usually occurs in the middle section but I'm sure that others have the same problem at times with the top lid. Is there any room for minor leakage around the lid? Thanks for any response.

Most of us leave the top vent open at all times so a bit of leakage shouldn't matter at all. Smoke a couple of butts and the grease may seal the gaps :wsm:
