Jewel Chuck roasts $3.99 Lb.

Isn't Jewel part of the Kroger family now? BTW no Jewel or any Kroger base store out here. We used to have a store called Magna (which was Jewel in disguise). They ran away, as did the Kroger based chains. So now it's Schnuk's (or as I refer to them as Schmuks) as I really dislike them. We have a Woodman's (meh), and a Meier (double MEH). So if I don't find what I need at either Costco or Sam's or the little local shop here in downtown Cherry Valley I don't buy it because I don't need it then

Kroger is merging with Albertsons who owns Jewel. Kroger is pretty big down here and many other places. Publix would be their main competitor at least in GA but their prices are much higher.

The race to the bottom is in full effect. Grocery stores have really suffered. Along with their formerly better paid employees.
As for pot roast, great! One ofmy favorites.
Do a simmer, then wait. Re-simmer, add carrots, then paste, corn....

Same problem here. Schnucks has a monopoly. There is Dierbergs, a small local chain that is more upscale and more expensive. Besides that we have Walmart and Aldi along with Costco and Sams if you buy bulk. We have lost Krogers, National and Shop&Save grocery chains so virtually no competition. I feel your pain-literally.
