Anyone ever lay eyes on this stuff or use it before?
I didn't even know it existed, apparently this style is known as white charcoal????......also burns completely smokeless I guess....???
I see it in California for something like $55 for a 20 pound box of it at the walmart in Sac......I could only imagine the price of it up here......
Binchotan is made by a other people, I just happen to be a JD fan boi......

As a person who promoted Jealous Devil Charcoal on this site several years ago. And still love & use the lump today. I decided to try a box of this Onyx charcoal a while back to see what all the hype was about. When I opened the box & picked through the charcoal to see what it was like the charcoal smell reminded me of sewer gasses. My hands actually smelled like that. I started some regular charcoal threw on some Onyx over it to do a low & slow cook. Not. Stuff does not like to stay lit low & slow. It's mainly for searing & hot fast grilling. I did pork chops last night direct over Onyx they had a nice color & were pretty good. But nothing that I could not have done with regular JD lump. Will not purchase anymore of this Onyx Charcoal. The smell of the charcoal itself almost made me toss it. But I will use it up on high heat & fast cooks. It almost smells like it was dug out of a old sewer lagoon. LOL I don't see this being a big hit for JD.
