When I woke up this morning my wife informed me I was smoking in my dreams again. I love smoking soo much that I dream about it alot. She say's I started by saying I need more wood to get the temp up. Then I was talking about adding the right spice to get that rub perfect. Then I went on saying we didn't need to mess this one up and it was time for the vegetables to go on. Sounds like I was at my dream vacation spot in Memphis. Memphis in May cookoff. I would love to get a BBQ team together. Until then I guess I'll keep dreaming and playing in my back yard.

I'm addicted to smoking AND smoking. Fortunately, I quit smoking cigarettes over 3 months ago.

Smoked food tastes so much better now that I don't smoke!

I have definitely been there! You are in good company... Great post.

Only fellow addicts can help you with this one. We are here for you!

Smoking in your dreams, classic!

I think about it all hours of the day and love to visit BBQ stores more than motorcycle stores these days.

I was in Toronto a couple weeks ago on biz and visited this store & i have to say it's a pretty kick *** store.

Thanks for the welcome. Love the Q-A-HOLIC. Been over those steps a few times. Nice toy site Stefan. Good prices too.

nice post. I have been to Memphis in May. did not care for it. it is fun if YOU are in the competition itself. Not fun if you are visiting and just want to sample some good bbq!

Yes I know what you mean. I've been to a few cook offs and your right they are dull if you your not involved in it. I think I spend as much money trying everything as it would be to compete. I just wish I knew someone here that has the same passion I do for Q and would want to get together
and try competing.

Logan, I don't know who your comp sanctioning body is, but out here where 4 meats are standard KCBS fare, there are quite a few 1 person teams. Before you say no way , I would find out the rules for your local or the closest local comps and do some practice cooks. See if you like the effort it takes and then make it happen. If you were here we are looking for a new team mate.

Best

Mark

I never thought about doing comps alone. I need to look into that. I'm sure I could do that. I think my local cook off is KSBS rules.

Logan , you have to be organized but a one person team can do it. One of the guys on this site does it all the time. Maybe Randy P will chime in here.

Logan, go to a comp on Friday about noon. Walk around and offer to help teams unload and set up. Tel the head cook that you are interested in learning, and will work for free. If you get a team that will accept your offer, you will learn exactly what it is all about. You will work hard but the pay back will be priceless. If you decide to try, do a full practice comp with all 4 meats. The key is to get your timing down for each meat to be done at the correct time. Brisket and butt will hold 2-3 hrs so they are easy. Birds and ribs need to be done and boxed close to turn in times. Once you get to a comp by yourself the teams will give you all the help and advice you need. Just ask. This sport is fun and worth the effort IMHO but not for everybody.
Send me an email if you want/need more help.
