Is There a Dead Giveaway?

In looking at pics on Craigs List, the size of Weber kettles is not always indicated. Are there tell-tales and give-aways that are foolproof to determine the diameter from pics?

22s have three wires in the bottom triangle. 26'ers have 4. If there's an ash catcher, look to see how close it is to the legs. There's more space on the 26'ers.

If you are looking at a kettle with an ash pan, if the indentation in the middle of the pan is bigger than the wheels, it's a 22. Smaller indentation is an 18.

Not sure what years this applies to, but if the vent is inline with the handle, it's a 22. If vent is parallel to the lid handle, it's an 18.

Dave is spot on here. Until they added the bolt on handles that was the easy eyeball test: In line with handle 22 (or 26:o) ) next to handle 18.

since most of the kettles on craigslist are still pre 2015 this rule still applies but over time as the bolt on handles become more common it will get trickier.

Don't be fooled by the 3 and 4 wire triangles. Here's a pic of my 26r next to a 22. As you can see, my 26r has 3 wires but could have had 4. I believe it was a manufacturing miss on my 26r triangle. And no, it's not a 22" triangle.
