Is "Kitchen twine" really necessary ??

Just unpacked 7.5 lb butt roast I bought a walmart today.

About 1/3 of the roast is detached pretty much from the rest of the roast.

I don't have "Kitchen Twine" I found some twine/light weight rope, just a little smaller in diameter than clothes line, there is no coating on it just seams like old fashion clothes line "Material.

Do you think I could use this to tie the butt ?

Plan on cooking low and slow very early tomorrow morning. I live about 10 miles from a store where I might buy some kitchen twine, don't care to go to town again today, have other plans.

I was just now going to put some rub on and put roast in the refrigerator until tomorrow morning.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

Thanks

If it's got no coating, you're probalby ok. I've used string before to trust chickens, not official kitchen twine which I have now.

Alternatively, just cut off the third and cook it separate, I don't know.

Thanks Guys.

Material looks like cotton, there is no coating on it. don't have any stainless steel wire.

I'm going to use it.
I rather tie it together and hopefully it will cook pretty evenly.

I watched Chris's vidio about tieing roasts so I should be all right.

Thanks again.

Sounds like your question has been answered.

As an aside i picked up some different size Silicone "rubber bands" for food at Sur la table a while back (they were on sale 75% off don't worry). Haven't had a chance to use them, but this is use is exactly why i picked them up.

I forgot about the silicone bands! My wife got them for me a couple of years ago as a stocking stuffer. They work great for trussing rotisserie chickens on the gasser.

i would cut a piece and burn it with a lighter or something first and see if you smell burning plastics. a lot of string and what not that isnt 100% plant uses recycled materials without regard to food safety.

Jon

A little late now, I tied it last night and currently have the butt on the WSM, for about 6 hrs.

Going to rotate the butt in about an hour, anything I should look at or do at that time, to verify the twine is all cotton ?

I wonder what if anything i can do at this point or when the roast is done.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions.

I hope I didn't ruin the roast ??
