I had a WSM for 14 Hours

This is a sad story about the 14 hours that I owned a WSM.

I was planning on cooking a couple of butts for my daughter's birthday party. In the past I've typically either done these on the gas grill or my little brinkman. I didn't really feel like staying up all night watching the brinkman like a hawk and I didn't really want to use the gas grill either, so I decided to go ahead and get a WSM.

There is one store in town that sells the WSM so I called them up to make sure they had one and then headed out. When I got there I asked the guy to get me one from the back and he said I could have the floor model if I wanted. I figured it would be easier to get one in a box to fit it in my car.

I head back home, ate dinner, then decide it was time to start putting together my WSM. I cut open the box and too my horror there are several spots on the side of the charcoal bowl and it's shaped like an egg. I proceeded to take all of the parts out of the box and see if it was just the top. As it turns out the whole smoker was squished up and oval shaped and there are several marks where the enamel coating is chipped off. I made a very short lived attempt at trying to correct the problem, realized that it was hopeless, then boxed it all back up.

By this time the hardware store where I purchased it was closed so I was out of luck. I stuck the butts on the gas grill and let it ride. The butts turned out OK for a gas cook, not really what I had grand hopes for earlier in the day though.

This morning I went back to the store and returned it and just asked for my money back. I figured I could buy one off of amazon and get it a little bit cheaper since I wasn't in a hurry any more.

Seeing as this was probably a shipping problem I'm a little bit skeptical about getting one shipped to me. Has anyone here had any problems ordering one online and having it shipped? If you got a damaged one what did you do about it?

I had one shipped from Amazon last August and it arrived in perfect shape. I wouldn't really be that concerned about having it shipped.

David -

You could search the site for the experiences of others - sometimes damage can occur. Usually it's not an issue.

Good news is that Weber almost always will take care of you. If there is an issue with a part or parts give customer support a call. They usually just ship out a replacement part - usually very quickly. Weber support is very good.

Dave-I bought my WSM from Amazon.com, but before I did I talked to a CS Rep at Weber. She told me that as long as you buy one from an "authorized" Weber dealer that the factory will replace would take care of any problem that you encounter.

The WSM showed up a couple of days after I ordered it and it was fine.

I also ordeded mine through Amazon last spring, and it showed up in great shape. Only the door needed a little tweaking, but they probably all do.
