I couldn't resist any longer...........

So in early May I took the plunge and bought one of these........

It went for its maiden voyage on Mother's Day and my wife wanted a prime rib roast so this is what went on the rotisserie........

Got to love the EZ Que!

Cooking away... Yes, that is the Weber's big Book of Burgers on the red table in the background :)

Done!

The roast came out great!

I bought the performer at Lowes and was able to use the 10% off online coupon so that brought the price down to $314. Right after I ordered it, one of their sales people called and asked if I wanted it assembled before picking it up. I declined since I don't trust the help in the big box stores in terms of free assembly.

I picked it up on Friday May 3 and was glad I didn't choose the free assembly option. I mean would YOU want someone with the name of "Thumper" on their name tag assembling your grill?

It didn't take that long to assemble it myself anyway. I think I was done in about 90 minutes. The hardest part was getting the ash ring part of the one Touch system installed. That part always throws me for a loop. Once I got that installed the rest was pretty easy.

One thing worth noting though. After I installed the ignition panel and screwed on the propane tank, and was about to try it out, I noticed the smell of propane coming from somewhere. I looked where the tank goes on and that was fine. I opened the lid and the smell was stronger there. I then heard the sound of the gas coming out of the burner tube. I had not turned on the gas yet. What the problem turned out to be was that the knob for the gas had been in the ON position even before I opened the plastic packaging and took it out and installed it. That's one flaw to be on the lookout for since there's no way to tell if the knob is in the on position or not before installation. Anyway I turned the gas off and left the lid off for at least 5 minutes to allow for the excess gas to escape. I then turned it on and hit the ignitor button and it fired up just fine.

What to do with the performers predecessor?

Since I have a Smokenator this one will now become the permanent smoker. I just ordered a pair of the 3/8" grommets from Cajun Bandit so after those arrive, I'll install them and it's conversion will be complete. Having this one as the smoker will also keep the Performer a lot cleaner.

Congrats. A few months ago I took the same road with a "Crimson" Performer but it was a tough decision between it and the "Copper". Your new Performer looks great. Fully agree I wouldn't trust some "numpty" from the Lowes to put my Performer together either. Also think keeping the old OTG is a great choice, it looks well loved and likely doesn't owe you anything so good call on keeping it. I keep watching my local classifieds and CL for a used rotisserie kit.

I too recently purchased a Performer Platinum in the copper color. Best grill I've ever had !! I had a problem with a gas leak at the orifice going into the burner tube even when the knob was off.Went through several bottles of gas until I figured that out!@#%* Faulty regulator,Weber sent me a new one and problem solved. Also have been on the lookout for a rotisserie and found an unused one on CL for $65, is that a good enough deal to justify about a 2 plus hr round trip ?

Just checked CL and that roto is gone,it was up there for awhile, guess I should have pulled the trigger on that.Snooze you lose!

Thanks! Yeah I was in the same boat as to whether or not to get the Crimson or the Copper Performer. It was a tough call, but the fact that I could get 10% off at Lowes sealed the deal for me. The old OTG is a 2009 model so not that old. The grommets from Cajun Bandit arrived yesterday so I'll install those in OTG sometime next weekend and I'll be good to go for smoking :)
