I could not find any Weber Firestarter cubes at any HD in San Diego.

My wife, when a girl scout, learned to make fire starters using fiber egg cartons packed with lint, soaked in melted wax and broken apart.

These things are effective and burn an awfully long time.

However, I seem to recall pricing the wax vs. buying the Weber starters at Publix (not known for their low prices) and concluded it was cheaper to buy the Weber starters.

If you got a cheap supply of wax, fiber egg cartons and lint, and it's hard to get the Weber starters, you might want to try making some of these.

Really pack as much lint as you can into each egg compartment.

I have been using a propane torch to set off a couple of chunks of lump atop a full ring. It only takes a couple of hot ones to get the whole thing going pretty quick.

Should have lint a pleanty in the dryer lint catcher.

Since my wife does plenty of laundry, there is no shortage of dryer lint. I think I am going to give this a shot. Does fabric softener or detergent fragrance cause any problems? I would think not, since it's only lighting coals, but I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with it.
