Hi all,

Just wanted some input. I'm having 7 adults and 4 kids over on Saturday. How many racks of ribs would you smoke? The guys are pretty big eaters. I'm also going to smoke baked beans, and a fattie. And have corn on the cob and cole slaw. Thanks alot for your input.

I'd say 5-6 racks of spares or 8-9 racks of loin backs.

I agree with Bryan. I always cook too many. If you are going to have 2 or 3 sides and appetizers, etc you don't need a whole rack per person. I'd say 5 racks max for your cook.

Me TOO! But if you are buying BB's at BJ's or Sam's, they come 3 to a pack so you might as well make all 6. See when I cook BB"s for me I eat a whole rack but make no sides. When I did that above cook I just couldn't believe we only ate 3 racks. But let me tell you, we are all big eaters and them sides really go a long way on filling you up, esp when they are good sides. Now all the sides were really fantastic, and my Niece couldn't stop eating the mac sald. She gave me her mac and cheese cause she said, Uncle Bryan I'm stuffed can you eat this. No but I will, so she slides it on to my plate. Then asks me to put more mac salad on her plate. Funny stuff, guess you had to be there. She's a Hoot.

I'd say 1/2 rack per adult and 1/3 rack per kid. So that comes out to ummm..damn, nobody said there'd be math...5 racks?

You might wanna cook a 6th in case you get a big eater or accidently drop one on the ground!

I just did a 7 adult cook not so long ago. I cooked 6 Racks of BB's and we only ate 3 racks. Link for you. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I heeded at the fact S Hawk specifically said they were "Big Eaters" and that ribs were the only meat besides a fatty.

1/2 rack of spares for the adults each and about a 1/4 rack per child comes out to be 4.5 racks of spares with no second serving for the BIG eaters. Cook 5-6 racks and there's a little extra for those that want some.

3/4-1 rack of Loin Backs per adult and 1/3 rack per child comes out to between 7-8.3 racks of LB's with no second serving for the BIG Eaters. Cook 8-9 racks and there's a little extra for those that want some.

It does all come down to who you are serving and my estimates are a little high for 'average' eaters or if you were serving another meat. But......since S Hawk stated they were "Big Eaters" I think the estimates will be close.

Thanks for the input. We'll have other apetizers that the guests are bringing too. I'm going to go with 5 racks -- maybe we're not as big of eaters as I said (need to leave room for the drinking too!). I'll let you know how we make out!

I cooked for My Sister, Brother in law, Mom, Pop, Niece, and Nephew today.
4 Men and 3 Women, didn't see any mice.

For me it matters how many sides we have. Too dang many most of the time. I cook like Larry does, cook too much on purpose.

Having leftover bbq never has bothered me too much.

Just wanted to let you know that I did cook the 5 racks, but the biggest of the eaters didn't show (sent home leftovers for him) and the 4 kids ate a combined 1 rib between them. So, we ate about 3 or so of the 5. I cooked a couple of fatties for the first time and I will definitely make those again. I think both were devoured in about 10 minutes!

Good deal! It's always better to have too much than not enough!
