How many # per case?

Does anyone know how many #'s of pork butts come in a case?

$1.39 a # and I want to get a case and put in the freezer.

Bryan you seem to freeze a lot of meat, is pork a good meat to freeze?
or should I cook it and then freeze it?

The problem is I don't really have time to smoke anything right now.

The sale ends the 15th.

Dave,

I've found that it varies, depending mostly on who's processing the butts. IBP brand (my fav) usually available at Sam's usually has 4 cryo's, each containing 2 butts in the 7.5 - 8 lb range. Once, however, our Sam's only had Farmland brand and it had 5 cryo's (10 butts) that ranged from 6 to 8 lbs for each butt (won't go that route again). In the end, I think you're looking at around 60 to 65 lbs per case.

Dave, The average # of Butts per case is 8, but as Bill notes it can varry. I freeze Butts up to a year with no problems. If you are one of those that usually cook 2 Butts at a time, then just leave them in the cryo vac that they come in. If you want to split them into singles (I do), then it's best to vac seal for the long term storage. My last case from BJ's had 4 packs, 2 in each pack, 8 Butts. I needed 4 for a cook the coming week, and the rest went into the freezer. I vac sealed 2 of them, and the other 2 just went into Zip bags. I knew I'd use the 2 in Zip bags within a month or 2. The other 2 I vac sealed just incase I didn't get to cook them for awhile. HTH
