How many people will an average size pork butt feed

Hey,
I know I have read on here how many people a avg size pork butt will feed

, but I can't find it. Can somebody help me out????

Hi John,

Really depends on who you are feeding (male, female, age, etc)and what else you are serving. If you are doing pulled pork sandwiches serving size is usually about four ounces, therefore four sandwiches per lb, this of course assumes you are serving a couple sides with it such as baked beans and coleslaw.

Also remember that there is a lot of shrinkage in a butt.

Sorry there isn't a finite answer but there are way too many variables. If you have more particulars put them in and I am sure that the real knowledgeable people that frequent this great board will be able to help you out.

John, if you're cooking an 8-pound butt, plan on about 4 pounds of edible meat, maybe slightly more, but plan on 4 pounds. You'll have to decide on your portion size, depending on football guys, average adult men and women, and children. 4 ounces on a bun makes a generous-sized sandwich.
