I will be smoking my first 2 pork butts this weekend with Minion method. One 7.4lbs and another 6lbs. How long should I give for these to cook. Plan around 220-240. Thanks.

I usually cook my butts around a 240* lid temp. They usually take about 18 hours. I have had 1 or 2 take less (one around 15 hours), and several take a bit longer.

And then there's my Butts...Costco Boneless...almost always 1.5 hours per pound cooking at 225 at the grate...I couldn't get a 2+ hour butt if my life depended on it. Of course next time I try and plan butts for a party, that's when it will hit me! That puts you at 11 hours on my clock.

I do 7-8 lb. bone in butts at 235-240 grate temp and they take right at 1.5 hrs per pound. Never had a 2 hr per lb butt yet but I'm sure one of these days I'll get one.
So figure on these times for 235-240 grate temps. Add 1 hr to those times below for the WSM coming up to temp and 2 pieces of cold meat to start out.
1.5 X 7.4 = 11.1 hrs
1.75 X 7.4 = 12.95 hrs
2 X 7.4 = 14.8 hrs
Edit: If you measure your temps through the lid shoot for 250-255, at the lid.

I just pulled off 22 lbs @ a internal temp of 190 wrapped in foil and resting in a cooler.

cook time 12hrs 40 minutes. First cook with clay pot mod! This is a A+ mod, i only wish i had done this a long time ago.

Cook temp wsa pretty steady at 225 - 235 all night, all vents 3/4 and top vent half, no wind.

Good luck with you cook!
