How fast does a butts internal temp rise?

I am doing my first butt and the temp of the butt is sky rocketing. I just got a Maverick 732 and after 2 hours its showing a temp of 129* (started at about 45*).

Do butts really climb in temp this fast? I tested the probes in boiling water and they were spot on.

Not sure on the size of your butt, but yes thats pretty normal it will rise quickly then about 165* internal it will stall or even go down in temp internally and stay in that area for a while (couple to several hours) then the internal will start going up again.
 
Normal Eric and i think you will rub your head when the butt hitts the "stall".

But all is normal. As Glenn said what temp is your cooker at?
 
Thanks for the replies. It's now at 180* and has been holding steady for quite some time.

The butts about 6# and my WSM has been at about 235ish for about 11 hours. Just took a peak at it and the bark is looking pretty good. I went with the Mr. Brown rub, but cut back on the pepper.
