Hot Q-200?

I put the Q-200 I picked up on CL through its paces and was surprised by how hot it runs. I am running it off of a 15-pound tank with the Weber brand hose.
After 15-20 minutes on high, the Q was running between 525-550 degrees, according to my Maverick thermometer. When I dialed the Q down to low, it wouldn't go below 400.
This is totally contrary to all I have read about the 200 series, which seems to have a reputation as an under performer. I am happy with the high heat, but I expected the Q to be able to run cooler than 400 degrees even after leaving the lid open for five minutes or so.
This is an older Q that accepts only the long, skinny, 14-ounce canisters.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks.

underperforming usually is involved when using the large tanks that have safety valves. you can take off the support ring and use the big green tanks.
i built a support ring for those out of some metal strap.
yes, my q220 gets to 500 under 15 minutes or so. if its really cold it might take longer but still more than hot enough to cook anything.

Okay, so today I ran another test on my CL Q-200. After preheating for 10 minutes, dialing it down to the lowest setting, opening the lip and brushing the cooking grate, then clipping on two thermometers, I closed the lid.
Within 20 minutes, both thermometers were reading more than 500 degrees. The Maverick ET-732 pegged out to "HHH," while the Thermoworks rocked along past 560 degrees before I shut it down.
This is on the lowest setting and running the Q off of a 15-pound propane tank and a Weber-brand connecting hose.
I think that's a bit too hot. Any ideas?
Thanks

i doubt it will go low quickly without anything to take the heat down such as meat. the ci grate can hold the temp for a long time.
try cooking on it and see how it goes. if yer burning things up then i imagine there is a problem.
on mine there is just a noticable change in the flame from high to low yet when i cook it works just fine.

I called Weber and they suggested the problem was either with the burner tube or the regulator. The burner tube looked in good shape so I replaced the regulator.
Now it's working like I thought it should, running from a high temp of ~ 550 to a low ~ 400ish.

well, at least it fixed. i'm a bit surprised at the amount of regulator failures that i've read about. i took one apart and they are
so simple it just makes no sense that they fail. can only be that they are using bad/cheap rubber. china junk ?
