Home security questions

Hi all,
I'm looking to get a six or so security camera system for my house and a smart front entry door lock.
It would be nice if the entry lock was part of the package.
I’m not interested in a bunch of window and door sensors or a contract with a contractor.
I currently use game cams Here and need an upgrade.

What are you guys happy with or maybe even unhappy with?
I have a ring door bell at my other house and don’t think it’s the right fit for here.
Any advice would be appreciate.
Thank you.
Andy.

Here I use a system of WYZE cameras (don't waste your $$$ on the on the V3 PAN. Useless poj never can hold it's settings. But the WYZE V3 is a top notch camera and has excellent night vision. I also have a RING PRO V2 on the front door. This is an outstanding (if not expensive) product. Highly recommended. On my back door, I installed a Google Nest Doorbell Cam V2 wireless. Here as well do not waste $$$ on the Google product. Total junk and waste. IT will not interface to anything but a Google Home Device, and if the weather goes below 30deg F it gives you all kind of warnings and should it drop below about 25F it stops working all together. Literally going black. This happens regardless of whether or not it's connected to a transformer or working on battery. When I called Google (too late for me to return the whole getup sadly), they said they didn't even know why it was sold to me. I'm like you sell these through Best Buy which is based in Minneapolis MN literally the arctic circle, and you say they should have not sold it to me because of where I live?! They answered affirmatively. Thankfully come winter, the back door is not used much (if at all) but I still relied on it as a security camera. So don't waste money on it. Here too would recommend a RING product.
But for cheap WYZE stuff (other than the V3Pan) are awfully darn good stuff

I use Arlo 4K wireless camera's around my house, and I also have the Arlo doorbell camera. Yale just came out with the Yale Assure lock 2 touch, which has no keyhole, it uses a keypad or fingerprint . Older smart locks like the Kwikset halo can be susceptible to being hacked with a bypass tool.

i am deploying a new Reolink system (POE cameras) on our new home that's being built. some cameras are PTZ and auto-tracking. some are fixed view. i will run a local NVR (recorder) so my data is local. i don't want my data leaving my home to a third party (like RING or other). price/performance/value is what drove me to this company and its solutions. they seem to offer the decent solution for the total cost of ownership and deployment. you can watch a bunch of reviews on YT. i spent a fair amount of time learning about these over the past 4 months.

wired cameras are a great choice.

will you have battery backup UPS for the POE?

is there an option to backup the data under your own control? daily encrypted backup to an archiving service like Amazon Glacier ?

If you're looking to go into depth, I'll refer you to an off-site security camera forum.

I've got 9 IP cameras and an NVR running Blue Iris. It can get technical.

EDIT: Funny and ironic...my neighbors have had more use out of them than I have (I'm not complaining!)

Until earlier this year I used a mix of D-Link WiFi cameras since about 2009. But their software to manage the devices became antiquated sometime ago and I just recently did something about it.

While still a WiFi setup, I bought several Amcrest 4MP ProHD IP cameras. Their software is free and--in my estimation--is very robust. In fact, I struggled with the configuration during my first attempt and received quick and responsive feedback on their forum. Heck, the software user manual spans 250 pdf pages. I set up a local NVR from within the software, too. The Android app also works well.

I have no experience with a smart lock.

good questions. working on possible local battery for new solar system so UPS/power is still TBD.

Took me awhile to find this because I haven't used it for a couple of years so I hope it is still free to use. This is a professional tool for figuring out camera placement. This will help you figure out distances, focal lengths and coverage area, using Google Maps satellite view of your property.

Welp, it ain't free any more. I don't know if it would be worth it to you for a couple hundred bucks to use but it was great while it was free. Sorry.
