Homade charcoal

does any one use homade ?? if so do you think I should get the hang of the WSM before I use it. or just use my homade?? I dont mean to sound like a dummy. just not sure. thanks.....AL
 
The answer probably lies more along your charcoal manufacturing process. So long as your home brew charcoal is consistent in its burn characteristics you should have no problem.
 
You might as well start out with what your going to be using. I see no reason to use something else to learn with, only to re learn when you switch to your own charcoal. Use what you got, It's all good.

I would go with the homemade charcoal first. I have used all sorts of charcoal and the WSM is extremely forgiving and isn't prone to temperature spikes. Two, you took all the time to make the charcoal, why not capitalize on that effort?
