High heat brisket up in flames

SO i figured i start off the new year with a bang right lol.

decided to do a high heat brisket and in the process the flames from the coal jumped into the Drip pan with all the grease/fat from the brisket..

As you guessed it the smoker was totally up in flames and got a tad out of control till i took a hose to it.

So i am finishing off the brisket in the over at 350.

With that said my door got totally melted and i am wondering with a fire such as this is the smoker pretty much fubar'd ?

If its worth keeping where can i get a replacement door for the 18 1/2 weber as i don't see it on the web site.

Thanks

The flames shouldn't have hurt the smoker itself. Get some Simple Green or Greased Lightning and clean her up good.

Call Weber - they'll send you a new door. Or Google Cajun Bandit and get one of their nifty stainless steel replacement doors from their website. I've had mine since they first came out and they are a great improvement over the stock door.

Tough luck on the brisket - hope it turns out ok.

wow, I have done at least 8 HH briskets and have never had that happen. how big was the brisket? did you have foil in the pan? when I foil the pan I always leave an air gap at the bottom so the grease isn't sitting directly in the pan.

Did your lid happen to be off?

I had the same thing happen - I'd left the lid <STRIKE>door</STRIKE> off for 2-4 minutes & I had flames shooting ~8' high. Luckily I was able to smother the flame with the lid & the brisket survived.

I think this same thing would happen with a low n slow cook too, if the lid was left off for a few minutes.

!!!Edit!!!

Left the Lid off, not the door.
