Hickory Nuts

I have a jillion hickory nuts in my yard now ... has anyone ever used them as smoke wood? I have used them for grilling but never in the WSM.

Anyone?

Guess not? Hard to beleive I am breaking new ground .. I guess I'll try a couple of handfulls on a butt next weekend.

I have to believe that burning nuts have a much different flavor than burning wood. That may or may not be a good thing.

I can tell you from experience that Chestnuts in a microwave will explode and distribute themselves evenly around the interior. My wife failed to see the humor in this.
