Hey Canucks in Toronto. Favourite Butcher / Meat Source for Butt's, Briskets

Darrell, Good to see you're still hanging in there! I have been far too busy to get in any Q since August when I prepared this bad boy:

I have been attending teacher's college in Buffalo and let me tell you, it's a different world BBQ wise down there. I picked up a couple of 10-12lb briskets in cryovac at a Super WalMart for $1.28 per pound. Also, the sheer amount and variety of prepared BBQ sauces blew me away. If you're ever away for a weekend down that way, check out a super WalMart for your brisket needs.

I have had some decent success in Burlington at the local supermarkets.

I bought a brisket at Fortinos last summer - they hadn't had someone ask for a packer cut before and they didnt' know what to charge me.

So they charged me the price they would normally charge for regular fat ground beef.

I got a 15 pound brisket for 30.00.

Fortinos has blade post roast and pork picnic roasts on for 2.00 a pound this week.

I find the blade post roast excellent for making stews and chili (esp since stewing meat is now 4.00 a pound!)

I just found the new kingsford lump charcoal, bought me a bag this past weekend but haven't used it yet. Anybody else seen or used it yet?

For you GTA residents looking for a good deal on pork: Food Basics has pork shoulder roasts on for 97c a pound. I picked up two last night - they weren't those tiny little picnic roasts either.

They were about 10lbs a piece.
