Ive had my grill to 600 but it didnt melt my rollers, I will have to keep and eye on them next time....

I did this same thing on my performer. Just cosmetic for me as they still work fine.

After a comp I put my 18"WSM grates (2), my 22" WSM grates (3), and my uncle's 2 grates off a barrel smoker, all covered in grease and bits of fat/meat on my perfomer over a bunch of coals. Turned around and there was a 2 ft flame coming out of the top, so I threw the lid on. Left the vents open for a minute, and I guess it melted the rollers.

Those sleeves melt faster than, well... they melt fast. What usually does it is what Troy was describing: lid propped slightly with rollers supporting the lid. Lid gets hot & coupled with the hot bowl, there isn't enough heat dissipation out to the ends to save the plastic.

I've had several go south on me. The only thing Weber will cover is the rollers - and they will only do it once. I've bought several.

Anyone think they would be fine if they were made out of wood? Maybe a machine shop could make some out of Aluminum.?
