Help in Quebec city !!!!

I am heading up to Quebec city the third week of July. We are having a bash for my uncle who is turning 70. I am bringing my WSM up (hope they don't give me a hard time at the border) and am planning to do 3 or 4 Butts for the party. Does anyone know where I can purchase bone in butts in Quebec city or anywhere nearby? I was thinking of contacting Costco because they sell Butts here.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, not sure about eastern Canada but over here on the west coast of Canada Costco does not sell Butts at all. Good luck.

I buy my butts from a Greek butcher in Toronto. I'd check the ethnic neighbourhoods. See what happens if you poke around, and if that doesn't work re-post and I'll ask some friends.

You won't have any problem bringing a wsm across the border, I have to do it all the time.

For the shoulder I would arrange with a butcher before I got there or as Mike says an ethnic market. I haven't looked in Quebec but I have never really seen bone in butts anywhere in Canada.

Thanks Guys,
I figured it was best to try and figure it out early enough. One of my good friends works for Costco so I am trying to pull some strings and see if he can order some for me. We will see,usually when I am crossing the border (coming home) I am worried about all the Maple leaf lump I am bringing back, now as long as I get thru with my smoker I am good to go. Thanks for the heads up Clark.

Thanks Mike;
I actually never thought about it in those terms. I am going to find out what monetary amount for how long I visit. I have 4 bags now, going to bring 3 or 4 bags next time. Used to be all I cared about was bringing back good beers I can't get here. Still working on finding some butts in Quebec.

Eric I'm going to a Costco in Gatineau QC on Thursday to buy a LARGE quantity of cheap beer for our week at the cottage. I'll check to see if they sell butts for you, I imagine the stores should carry most of the same stuff since they are probably supplied from the same shipping hub.

Wow that that is very nice of you I appreciate it. Still have not heard from my Costco connection, think he is on vacation. Stocking up for a week off eh? Very cool. Hope you have an awesome week. Thanks again.

Hey Eric, Well Costco didn't have anything remotely close to butts or shoulders in QC. They do have nice big pork loins if you wanted to go that way. Why not just bring them with you in a cooler?

Very good question Bob, I thought it would be an issue at the border, looked it up and I am allowed 10 kilograms of meat, although the article mentioned everything but pork. I am going to do some homework and figure it out. Just bought a Coleman extreme cooler for my fishing trip, that thing rocks btw, loaded it with ice (and beer)on Monday, ice held until Saturday. Thank you for pointing out the obvious.

So are you regularly searched at the border? I've driven across lots of times and the only time we were ever searched was when we told them we were going to see The Greatful Dead.

I think that would also be 10kg per person in the vehicle.

Hello Bob;
I visit Montreal pretty often and most times its not an issue, but when I go frequently in a short amount of time sometimes they get suspicious. Truth be told I have run into more issues coming back to the States. I am driving up alone but I will probably give my Father a couple of Butts to bring as well. My easiest trip thru the Canadian border was when the female officer questioning me had a spider fall down her shirt, she felt something on her neck, swiped at it and down it went. I told her " Umm when we are done here you may want to check your shirt, a spider fell down there" . Fastest I ever saw one of them move, too bad this was before youtube.

LOL Well we smuggled $400.00 dollars worth of beer across the Quebec/Ontario border last night with no problems. Going to be a good week

Just a follow up guys, Border patrol asked "any gifts" nope doing a group thing, just giving cash, "so everything in the truck is going home with you? " Yep, (except for 27 pounds of pork and 10 lbs of shrimp). WOO HOO TIME TO SMOKE.
