Hi all,
I just purchased my first smoker, a WSM 18.5! My nephew and I went halfsies on it. I have never seen a product with such great reviews on so many different sites.
I love smoked..anything, but have never actually done the smoking myself. The impetus to get a WSM was the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I am converting from our traditional deep fried turkey to a smoked! I always wanted to smoke one but it seemed like a big pain. After seeing such great reviews for the WSM and how incredibly easy it was to smoke with, I decided to make the switch. For Thanksgiving, we always do two birds, one in the oven covered in bacon strips and honey
D) and one in the fryer. Perhaps with the smoker we will no longer use the oven! I don't feel too bad about not using my fryer anymore because I will still use all the parts from that to smoke the bird! I will use the pot to brine the turkey, the stand to stand the turkey in the smoker and the grab hook to pull it out.
Looking forward to our first test smoke this weekend.
