Hello All. This is my first attempt to post on this site. I just finished assembling my 18 1/2" Smokey Mtn Cooker. I am concerned about the placement of the grille on my wooden deck. Will the aluminum pan underneath the lower section sufficiently reflect the heat away so as not to damage the deck surface. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a wooden deck, but I use an oil drip pan under mine.

Hey Tom.

Welcome to the forum. I too am a new WSM owner. I built a block skirt under mine. Right now its on a cement patio, but will soon be set in the dirt. This will work for your wood deck. It cost me about 20 bucks at home depot. Follow the link below for the pic.

Welcome to the best site on the web, I have a wood deck and I set mine on patio blocks just for safety sake.

Welcome to the site. Hot coals dropping out of your chimney starter is more of a concern than out of the cooker.

Better to err on the side of safety. I have a wooden deck and have never grilled on it. If I did, I'd put something fireproof between grill and wood deck. Welcome to the site.
