Hey folks,
I finally decided to register on this site, I have poked around on here for a short while.
After casually grilling on cheap equipment for the past 23 years, I recently (last year) bought my first Weber (used kettle w/ wood handles) I was about to buy a new Performer, but I stumbled across this at a thrift shop. I was so impressed with the quality and the fact that it still could be cleaned up to look like new after being neglected for so many years and all the great things I read about their customer service that I bought a used Genesis Silver A as well.

I currently have a 2006? black Weber Genesis Silver B and a darker green Performer with the gas assist. Both were purchased used for CHEAP and are in excellent condition. I am keeping my eyes open for a used Summit in nice shape and a used Smokey Mountain.

I still have a LOT to learn about grilling, and I know nothing about smoking (yet). My goal is to one day make "pulled pork", which is my favorite food and one of my daughter's favorites as well.

I tend to collect things (guns, outboard motors) and can see myself possibly collecting some more Webers in the future, although I will have to find space for them in our small screen room where I do my grilling.

Well, I've blathered on enough. Please bear with me as my questions will undoubtedly be rather on the "noob" side.

Hey Greg, we're happy to have you with us :)
Nice job 'recycling' those Webers.... you'll love both ovum!
You're pulled pork can happen sooner than you think, kettles put out AMAZING smoked butt.
Hang around a while, you'll get the hang of it;)
Welcome to our addiction!!

Welcome to the forum Greg. Like Jim says your kettle makes a great alternative to a WSM. I've done whole shoulders and 16 lb briskest on mine. I'll also let you in on a little secret..... It uses a heck of a lot less charcoal than a WSM for a butt cook.

Wow thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I had no idea I could smoke the proper meat for pulled pork on my Performer. Does this mean that I don't have a good excuse to get a WSM? (see, I'm trying to pick up on all of your abbreviations)
Oh, and River Ridge is a suburb on the west side of New Orleans.

Hi Greg, welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place if you have any questions on Webers or smoking in general. Good to see another Louisianan in the fold. I live a little up the road from you in Gonzales.
