Hello my fellow smokers. I'm very glad to have found you. I've been smoking for about 10 years with some pretty good results BUT, I can't say, with any predictability. Started with a charcoal Brinkman that I still have. Added an electric box smoker from HD. It lasted 3 lightly used seasons before it died. Bought another from Lowes. Used it 2 times. HATED IT. Brought it back. Total investment at this point was about $400.00 and I wasn't feeling the love.
After those experiences, I decided to do some real research. During my searching I happened upon this web site. I was on it every nite. My wife thought I was losing it but I found what I was looking for. After 2 weeks of looking, reading and soul searching I pulled the trigger and bought a WSM 22". Seasoned it and, then last weekend, smoked a bunch of chicken thighs. Happy, happy, happy.
One if the things that hooked me about this group was the fact that you were willing to lay out 3-4 hundred bucks for a product that, as soon as you received it, were going to start drilling, cutting and modifying it!!! I'm jumping in, ordered my Maverick ET-732 and intend to cut the slot for the probe wires.
Given the size of the 22, it's a big boy, can any of you suggest a source of handles for the body?. I'd really like them to be wood. I thought of the Brinkman but think they are a little small and disproportionate.
Well enough of my rambling. Glad to be a member. Thank you for all of the advice, comments and suggestions I've already enjoyed.
