Heat Problem

Well, I finally broke down a couple of weeks ago and bought myself a WSM. I am working on my second cook and am finding it hard to keep the temp down below 250 degrees. I am using the Minion method and am confident the thermometer is accurate. I have two of the three vents completely closed and the third vent mostly closed. The top vent is open all the way. I am here in the Kansas City area and the winds are not too bad.

I have noticed that the door to where you add charcoal etc does not fit well. Is that my problem? If so, how do I correct the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chris. After I posted I did run across the areas of your site that you mentioned. There is not much I can for now but will try some things before my next cook.
