Hatch green chiles are here - 2025

Just saw the first batches of Hatch, New Mexico green chiles in my local San Diego market.

I picked up a bundle for roasting and dicing

This batch was labeled as "mild" (per family request this year), but it still has a wonderful lip tingling warmth - and the taste...yum!

I'll be doing more batches for freezing as long as the season lasts here.
 
Precious few markets in the SD area that actually have on site roasting.

I remember visiting my parents who retired in Santa Fe, NM and driving around town with markets that had roasting stands - the aroma was intoxicating.

I'd pay money to just sit and park and take in the wonderful smells of roasting Hatch chiles! :)
