Hardwood Oak Cut-Offs From Furniture Making

I've been making a bookcase with white oak. The tree was sawn about 2 years ago, I bought the boards at the sawmill. Can I just use the cut-offs and scrap for smoking? There's nothing special about smoke wood?

Also -- If I've bought cherry at a hardwood supply store, should I assume that it hasn't been treated, and I can throw scraps into the smoker?

Yes, you can use the oak. No, nothing special about smokewood.

It is not likely wood such as cherry has been treated. Check with the vendor to be sure.

Just make sure the ends weren’t treated with anything (paraffin, shellac, BLO, etc). Sometimes the end grain of air dried boards are treated to prevent cracking as the board dries.

I've been using unfinished oak floor scraps, works like a charm.
