Hard wood as fuel?

Theoretically, what would happen if one were to use normal, dry, hard wood as fuel in the WSM?

Would it burn too fast? Too hot? With too much smoke? (etc)

Has anyone tried?

I'm just curious...

A WSM is designed to burn charcoal. There are folks that will burn down the wood to charcoal then add to the cooker, very labor intensive.

Interesting -- I was just reading _Smoke & Spice_ last night and was wondering *exactly* the same thing. My guess is that the WSM is precisely engineered for the physics of charcoal, but I'm sure it's been done... anyone have any experience with this?
