Handles for the bottom rack of my WSM

Even after just one cook , I knew that the flat handle-less bottom rack of the WSM was going to be an issue , so I read a few posts on various BBQ forums and came up with these stainless steel u- bolts that fasten easily on the grate and make dandy handles. You still need your welding gloves , but at least you've got something to get ahold of! This was easy and cost under 10 bucks.

Frank, thanks for the idea. On another note, is that an old reel oiler I see in the background, next to the knife?

that little oil can , i think was from my grand dads stuff that i found in the cellar after he passed away. it has real fine oil in it. it probably is for fishing reels . he and my uncles were all big deep sea and....well , any kind of fishing , really.

Nice mod but I question why you would have a need to pull the bottom grate during a cook?

well , i dont think of it as being for during a cook , but when youre all done you have to take the rack with the cooked food out of the smoker. so , now you got oven mitts on your hands or a pair of welding gloves and you cant get your fingers around the rack to lift it out. this way you lift the whole thing out and set it on your side table and you can deal with the cooked food as you like.
