Gustav Hurricane Party / 1st Week of College Football

I'm a little bummed the hurricane is headed our way. Hopefully Gustav will provide a little less drama than Katrina.

I have to look on the bright side of life though. College Football is less than 13 hrs away now that the LSU game is at 10AM.. Perfect timing for some fatties & beignets!

Hope all is well elsewhere. What are you planning to cook for your tailgate event?

Geaux Tigers!!

You folks be very careful out there for those who are in the path of this hurricane. We'll keep all of you in our prayers so that you come out of this thing unscaved.

And little old ECU in my home town just beat the 17th ranked Hokies of Va Tech! Yeah!

If it reaches Cat 4 I would be headed north quickly. We only have to deal with blizzards in Buffalo, and I can't imagine what it is like living through a hurricane.

It has and I would be too. When I moved to Orlando, we did the "hurricane party" thing but I was young then. Once I wised up a bit, got married and had a couple rug rats, it became a whole different story. Floyd scared the bejesus out of me and we finally moved to blizzard country shortly before the year of Charlie (and associates). It was great when I was younger .. Living down there is a choice and I chose not to stay. That said, those that choose to stay, please stay safe.

Does NOLA mayor Ray Nagin own a WSM? When I saw the CNN headline about "get your butts moving" and immediately thought about the smoking implications, I realized I'd been obsessing about my Sunday brisket smoke a little too much.

From CNN:

Category 3 Hurricane Gustav is about 375 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and projected to make landfall along the Gulf Coast on Monday. "You need to be scared," New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said. "You need to get your butts moving out of New Orleans right now. This is the storm of the century.

I was at a tailgate at 9 AM for a 6 pm kickoff.

We were pounded all day by bands from Gustav.

A miserably wet day, but the brisket came out great despite the rain and wind.

Best of luck to everyone in La, I was listening to WWL on my way home last night, and heard Mayor Nagin's press conference.

This is very serious.

Doug D, do you live near the west bank?

Ray </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I'm a Hokie fan, but sure didn't take ECU lightly. No one I know did. That's a fiesty little team down there.

Our championship thoughts are over.

I know we're supposed to steer clear of politics on this board and I also understand why, but I sure as hell can't believe michael moore and that other dimwit liberal were thanking God for the hurricane because it is going to screw up the Republican convention. It's appalling they'd like to see death and destruction to further their causes. It really makes my blood boil people can think that way, on either side of the aisle.

I'm off my soapbox, so now back to football and Gustav....

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>Damn, I nearly had a cow until I pulled up Weather.com:
Time: 11 pm ET
Wind: 115 mph
Strength: Category 3
Direction: NW at 15 mph

A CAT 5 would be horrible.

Great news that it has weakened. The last time I looked it was up to a Cat 5. Lets just hope it keeps weakening before landfall.
