Just wondering what makes a better grill Cast iron or Porcelain enamel.I'm about to buy one for my performer to mainly cook steaks on.
Cheers

Cast iron will be thicker and hold heat better, but they must be cared for. Every porcelain grid I've used for high heat grilling has always had the porcelain chip off and not last. I actually like stainless steel, real, solid stainless steel grids.

Look into the Weber Gourmet system. Very thick SS grates with a section in the middle for a cast iron insert. I love cooking with cast iron inside but don't really want to deal with the maintenance of the cast iron grill grates. With the 12" cast iron insert it is easy to bring inside, clean, oil and put back.

Poor man's Cast Iron Grate.

It's a regular weber grate with the flip up sides. I have a CI grate from a throw away char-broil gasser setting in the center. I get it nice and hot and throw the burgers & steaks on for a great seer with grill marks.

I had the CI grates and sold them. I got a stainless steel grate from Weber. The rod diameter's are larger than the nickel plated grate. Very easy to care for. I get good sear marks on my food.

Like Earl I like the cheapy CI as well! Nice grill marks on steak and burgers! Got mine from a old char-griller that I don't use much any more!

This is a grate that was in a fire pit in the yard when we moved in.

It's a perfect fit as the corners touch the bowl and I can just get the hinged grate sections open.

I bought this the other day. Its the weber grill with a cut out section for a hotplate or grill. I'm trying to find a CI grill or SS grill to fit
I think the Genesis Silver/Gold grill fits but need some dimensions before i purchase one.
Could someone post the dimensions of the SS grill please
Cheers
Joel

Raw CI-gates is what i use. They sit in the grill all year around. Brush em of once hot and Oil em if i havent used them in a while. Looks like new(well thats a lie). But if i clean em up they will.
