Grape Vines For Smoke Wood?

I read on a website that you can use Grape Vine as smoke wood. I have a forest that has tons of the large 1.5 - 2" diameter "grape vine" that we use to swing on when we were kids. Hangs from way up on the tree's. We always called it grape vine, but I never saw any grapes. Seems silly I know, but is it possible this is the stuff I can use?

Thanks!

better find out what yer vine really is. most times it refers to the actual trimmings and wood from grape vines grown to make the table grapes and wine. yes, it does give of a nice taste.

Dwayne, what time of the year do cut the vines down? I have a bunch of winery's around that I could perhaps get some from... NE Ohio...

I'm not sure when the wineries cut........some leave the grapes on until frost for late season wine varieties.............I cut mine usually around the first frost, sometime between then and New Years. They probably have a tremendous amount of cut vines since I was told to cut mine wayyyyyyyyyyyy back to within a foot of new growth.

I'm thinking you'd have to use quite a bit of cut/dried vines to smoke; I imagine they burn up pretty quick, as opposed to large wood chunks. I imagine it's similar to using wood chips.
