Genesis S-310 - Finishes

I have not had good luck with non Weber stainless grills for the finish looking bad after a while. My WSM is black so I am thinking of going black on my new Genesis S-310 purchase. I was surprised to see the cost much cheaper at Lowes in Black unless I am missing something in the model. $849 stainless vs. $699 black porcelain

The $150 difference is the Porcelain-enameled cast iron grates & Porcelain-enameled flavor bars. I love the stainless steel grates in my S330

If you don't mind the price difference the stainless grates and flavorizer bars are worth the cost. Your other option would be get the black one and when the bars and grates are shot order some from rcplanebuyer on EBay, Cost a little more but much better quality than the Weber products.
I agree SS grills are a pain to keep looking nice compared to porcelain.

I had SS and when I sold my house the buyers insisted on me leaving my Genesis ( 1 yr old). Overall offer was good so I agreed. Then immediately bought a new Geneses that was black. Will never have SS again - too hard to keep clean looking.

Thank you folks for the great comments. I just returned from Lowes and have another question if I could bounce off you all. I do like the stainless cooking grates but really wish it were an option for the colored versions. So I am thinking like mentioned using the porcelain coated cast iron grates until worn and replace with stainless steel. So at Lowes I say a Genesis E330 and was looking at the extra Sear Burner, how functional is that? I can also see it working for a dedicated cast iron smoke box on cooks like Pork Shoulders.

When doing a direct cook on my S330, I always run the three left burners (includes the sear station) for a nice large cooking area. (example below) I only wish there was a sear on the right side, for a total of five stations.

Go to a true Weber dealer and you can find the "EP" version. You won't pay any more than LOWES either since Weber is a controlled price product and the company does not allow discounting. So a grill that is $799 at Lowes will be the same at a dealer.

Thanks I was not away of the EP model as it is not even listed on Weber's site. The cost is a little different however as the EP-330 is $849 online and Lowes gives vets 10% discounts so that's another $80 too.

What is the difference between an "E" or an "EP?" The only difference I can find is that the EP is only available in black, whereas the E is also available in copper

EP has stainless grates and flavorizer bars. E does not. The cost difference between buying stainless later is well worth it to get it up front though IMO Weber has really cheapened up the grates. The spacing is so wide you can drop an entire steak between the bars and they're rather skinny too. Not like they used to make them with much narrower spacing and 3/8" rod. Another option is buy the E and than later on get some really good ones from RCPlanebuyer. His grates and flavorizer bars are lifetime investments. You'll never need another set of either

Agreed, $50 difference for SS grates and bars is well worth the price of admission

I've had my SS330 for about a half year now, and I can see that in a couple years, the grates and bars will not be what they could / should. I'm real happy with the BBQ, and would invest in the upgraded grates & bars. But with the 10 year warranty, I could see Weber sending out replacements for free, so it's a catch 22 there (imho) I do wish the grates in the Genesis were as thick as the ones in the Summit

Even the new Summits have cheapened up beyond what I would want to drop $$$$ on. I actually thought about buying another (due to Weber dropping the ball on the support of my current one). When I lifted the lid I was so turned off I just shook my head and walked away from it. They need to cut out the bells and whistles and go back to making it a great grill. Right now it's only a good one. Again YMMV but for my $$$$ I'll do the best I can with my old Summit 450 (thanks to Clint's help) I should be able to get some more years from it :-) but I don't think I will spend the kind of $$$$ they cost again on a new one. I have my old Genesis III (formerly a II), I have the Wolf 6 burner with rear IR burner), the Summit and my Broilmaster(s) (one is waiting on some parts) along with my Q grills (220 and a 140). Yes I have a "fleet". But each has it's strengths I turn to almost daily. Yes I have a very understanding wife. She shakes her head but she's cool. She has that "Minnesota Nice" thing going LOL

A little tip when shopping for Weber grills. Check with your local dealer before going big box store. The prices should be same, as mentioned; however, dealers may offer free propane, delivery, assembly, discounted accessories with purchase, etc. They may also have the premium/special/limited models (stainless grates/flavorizer bars) and different colors.

The plus to buying one at Home Depot or Lowes is they'll finance it interest free for 24 months which means you could buy the S-670 or the E-670 for $100 a month. That's a whole lot of BBQ for $100 a month
