Genesis II S-410

I have come across two or three with the bottom parts melted out, but never a whole chunk burned out of the top side.

Hmmm. Was that a challenge 😉

Not really, just a quick observation.
Elaborating a little though .... I am guessing this
problem has as much to do with the grill it occurred on
as the grease. I feel fairly safe in saying that I have never
seen a meltdown this bad on pre-Genesis II series grills.

I have. Actually even worse. People down the street had an old 1000 go so badly the firebox melted down, dripped down to their deck, set that on fire, FD had to come out. neighborhood smelled like a bad bbq LOL. Was pretty amazing

I picked up a burnt 2013 S330 that melted the bottom of the cookbox, but nothing as bad as the S410 in the original post.

I wonder if a fire caused the hard line to rupture.

Just shows you how important it is to scrape out the grease tray periodically. Those crunchy bits make great wicks.

Some photos of the finished grill. Seems to work fine, got it up to 300 degree’s Celsius with no problem with the heat on the outside.
So I’m happy with it 😎
