Genesis identification help/mid-90's 1000?

Hey guys I just home from a Craigslist score and need help identifying this. It's a green top Genesis and I think it's a mid-90's 1000. It has two rows of flavor bars inside. Internally it looks ready to use - might need a crossover tube. Picked up for $40 including a tank.

I haven't had the time yet to pull off the control panel to check for a model or serial# to confirm the model. Any thoughts fromGenesis 1000.jpg the folks here as to what this is?

Yeah BOY! That’s a great deal I I got my maroon one for $20 but, I needed to replace bars, grates burners and do a serious “sprucing up” overall. What’s it look like inside?

Yah, I picked up one just like it two days ago for $20 with a tank, but it had the darn quick connect on it. So, I will have to replace that.
That is a later 90's Genesis 1000. You might see a label on the right side of the grill or maybe on the underside of the control panel. If you can read the serial number, you can use that to get the actual date of manufacture of the grill.

Oh yah, if you find you have to replace the cross over tube, you are probably better off just buying a whole new set of burners. A cross over tube is going to cost you more than $10 most likely and a full set will be approximately $20.

Thanks for the model confirmation, guys. I was pretty sure it was a 1000 due to the two-row flavor bar. I think this thing might be ready to use as-is. None of the flavor bars are rusted through - just a bit dirty. The grill grates looks to be good enough to cook on tonight. I was going to grill steaks on my little red Spirit, but I might give this a try tonight.

I agree with Bruce on the crossover tube - will probably just get the full set with crossover tube. I need to slow down. This is my second Genesis in as many weeks. Some more pics too.IMG_20200618_152122578_HDR.jpgIMG_20200618_152051343_HDR.jpgIMG_20200618_151728261.jpgIMG_20200618_151837300.jpgIMG_20200618_151934737.jpgIMG_20200618_152000535.jpg

Nice score, was eyeing that one. Logged on a bit ago and it was gone from CL. Nice to see it landed with you.

One of the benefits of working from home is the endless hours spent browsing Craigslist for Weber scores. I didn't see the listing until this morning and I was surprised when the lady told me it was still available and that I can come get it. The couple told me they got lots of responses to the ad and I'm still not quite sure how I was able to score this.

Agreed. Now that I'm done w/ my restore. I feel like I need to find another. Didn't jump on this one b/c I already have a green lid. Still searching for a blue one. There was a red lid in Half Moon Bay that went for free yesterday.

I saw that red top in Half Moon Bay and sent the guy and email asking for availability, but never heard back from him. I think I'm finished grill shopping for the time being, but it's hard to not pull the trigger when you see a free one available.

Kevin, FYI, going off your serial number, your grill is a 1996 year of manufacture.
Very cool - thanks for the info Bruce. So that little sticker is the serial#? All of the numbers were faded from the sticker under the control panel. It's confirmed that I'm grilling dinner tonight on this 24 year old grill. Everything internally is working and quite clean on this old girl.

Yep, the first two letters tell you the date.

1994-Today: “AUTHORIZED” Code
Starting with the 1994 model year, Weber switched to a two-letter alphabetic code representing the model year of Weber charcoal grills, using the word “AUTHORIZED” as the key. As with the previous code scheme, this two-letter code was stamped into the lid damper of each charcoal kettle. For the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker, the code was stamped into the lid damper and all three charcoal bowl dampers. On some Performer grills, the code can also be found on labels on the rear panel of the grill or on bar code stickers under the control panel or stainless steel charbin cover.

Thanks for this Bruce. I remember seeing this info on the site when I was trying to date my Spirit 500. I had forgotten about this list and the year codes.

Kevin,
I wanna disagree with the masses here and say that is a Genesis 1200 series and not a 1000.
It appears to have the durawood tables & shelves as well as the plastic lid handle.

Either way you got a great deal.

Jeff

Actually after checking the SN on the Weber site, it comes out as a 1000LX.
