Genesis e-310 after 9y old Target special rusted

Had a Thermos brand SS, 4 burner + side burner for 9 years. The back is rusted so the burners are coming un-attached. So birthday gift #42, the meaning of life and the universe and everything had better involve a Genesis E-310.

You don't know how hard the decision was. Agonizing to spend $600 instead of $269. I keep reading that the investment is worthwhile. It would have to last 20 years to get the same cost per year. It is easy to tell the difference in the showroom between thin gauge sheet steel and Weber's cast aluminum.

I have a couple of questions:
Do you recommend oiling the inside of the box and the grates to 'season' them?
The grates sure look like cast iron, but Weber's site says all the grates are ceramic coated (or stainless)?

Thx!

Welcome to the forum Chad, your going to love your Genesis and yes it will last you 20 years. Rich has rebuilt our Genesis that we have had since 1999 and its still going strong.
Any questions you have just ask away because there is all kinds of great folks who will help. Looking forward to seeing your cooks and don't forget the pics.

As Rob said, don't worry about the box. I'd add that I would kind of watch the lower cart though and be proactive with it. If you have a problem, that's where it will probably be.

Enjoy !!!
I am at 15 years (and counting) on my Genesis, all it takes is some yearly TLC, a labor of love, and really just stripping it down for a good spring cleaning. I have replaced the grates, but other than that the only real maintenance was re-painting the end caps, total cost = one can of rustoleum and some painters tape for the edges.
