Genesis 330 wheels

How can I adjust the wheels on my Genesis 330 so I can roll it off cement and into the yard? There is virtually no clearance for the wheel to roll.

I'm beginning to regret buying this grill last year. In the store it rolled around easily and had locking casters. That's great on flat cement. But, my grill cannot be moved off of the patio because of the lack of clearance. Although I love to cook on it, I would not have spent over $800 had I known the problem. Anyone else have the same issue?

Are you trying to take it down a step? I could see where that could be a problem. Is it possible to keep it in a set location and eliminate the issue? Even with two large wheels on my Genesis 1000, it is not easy to move off of the concrete pad.

Those are called hooded casters and I don't know if there's a way to remove part of the hood so they roll better on soft surfaces. Clearly that was not the intention with these casters. You might consider trying to retrofit with a different caster that will allow for off-road use in the yard.

What do others do when you want to take the grill off the patio and into the yard. We know it will not roll because of the wheels. Any ideas?

Mine rolls fine on the large wheels. I just lift the side with the small wheels and roll it on the large wheels.

Gene, can you please post pictures of your Genesis? Look at the Genesis in this post. Genesis Post Are these wheels the same as yours? If you post a pic, we will know better how to advise.

I assume Gene has the newer Genesis like this ? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0045UBB2M/tvwb-20
If so lay down some cardboard or a sheet of tempered hardboard.

That would make sense Tim. I am so used to the older Genesis that I don't even think about the new units. I think if I have one of the newer grills with that wheel arrangement I would just leave it on the patio and only move it when it was absolutely necessary.

Gentle reminder...please do not cross-post the same question to multiple forums. Better to have the conversation consolidated in one place. Thanks. :)

As I replied earlier, you'll need to replace the stock casters with something that will allow you to off-road the grill. Off-roading was easier when the gas grills had two large wheels on one end, but the design changed to hooded casters in 2007. A quick review of competitive websites shows that many high-end grills have hooded casters like the Weber; some less-expensive grills still have two big wheels on one end. My guess is that Weber is intentionally discouraging off-road use by their choice in casters.

I see a wheel swap in the very near future those "hooded casters" are not to my liking
