Genesis 3000 resto or spare parts?

Hey everyone. I picked up a Genesis 3000 this past weekend for $20. Having an eye problem I didn't realize that the cooking box is rusted through. The cart has some rust that wouldn't be too big of a deal to fix for one of my friends who does welding, but what do you all think? I don't really think it's worth trying to repair the cooking box. The grill is complete with the inserts for the bottom shelf (none of the wood is original) and the side burner and control panel is all in good condition. I just don't know where I can find a cook box for a reasonable price. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

I think it's really unusual for the firebox to rust through. But since that's the case IMO the best thing would be to look for another grill that you could use the firebox on. Combine two grills into one. I think the firebox on the 1000 and 2000 are identical to your 3000? If so that would allow you to broaden your search.

Thanks for the advice Greg. I thought the same thing myself with the rusting of the firebox. It seems that somewhere along the line a piece of sheet metal was installed to block the rust, which also means blocking off the location of where the flavorizer bars sit. :/

That was actually my next question. I've been looking online for information on the firebox dimensions of the 1000 and 2000. They looked similar enough and I figured they were probably the same. I really like the touch the wood work table and bottom shelf gives this generation of Genesis grills. There is one on Craigslist here for $60. Don't know what series it is exactly but it looks really similar only with plastic work tables and wire bottom shelf. Are we allowed to post links to ads like that on

Honestly unless I am missing something that does not look like a 3000. If it was the lower portion of the fire box would be hanging way below the trim plate on the front there. If I could figure out picture posting on this darn site I'd take a photo of my own and show you. The photo you posted looks like something after the grills carried the I, II, III or 1000, 2000, 3000 designations. I think they went to A, B, C.
Also aluminum does not rust. My guess is either you're mistaking the grease funnel for fire box or the grill may have had a serious fire and the aluminum was burned or melted through

Yeah that's a good point. When I was restoring my first weber I didn't realize at first that the bottom (or grease funnel) was a separate piece. If it's just the grease funnel that's an easy fix.

Check to see how many flavorizer bars it has, if 13 it's a 3000, if 5 most likely a Silver C from 2000-2001. I did a little research and it appears that the tubs for each series the 1000, 2000, 3000 are the same. Same with the Silver B and C. Differences being the amount of flavorizer bars. So with that the tubs aren't interchangeable between series just within the series. So if yours is a 3000 and you can find a good 1000 tub you should be good to go. Same if it's a Silver C a Silver B should work, The Silver A was a two burner and won't work.

Awesome info everyone. Thanks for the input. This particular grill does have 13 flavorizer bars but it seems that somewhere along the way, due to the rusting of the cook box, someone inserted a piece of sheet metal to block off the hole, while simultaneously blocking off the grooves that the flavorizer bars sit on. :/ I'll post some pics later this evening so you all can see what I'm talking about. The grease funnel is actually intact. I'm thinking it probably had fire damage. Good part is that I didn't spend much on it and it does have a bunch of salvageable parts. Has all the knobs and control panel is still really nice. Too bad there isn't any serial number on the pit.

Look under the control panel, that's where they hide it. Most likely a late 90s grill.
If it was me I would pursue restoring it. You're in it $25 and if you pick up a 1000 for the tub and pay $50 and sink another $175 in parts, for $250 you would have a great grill and a rare one at that. To buy a new Weber that was somewhat comparable would be over a $1000.
You could also sell the spare parts to recover some of the cost as there is a market for them.
If it was a 1000 in that shape I'd say go get another one, but 3000s are pretty rare.

Looks like I'm going to go for a restore on it. It's a cool grill and I think it will be a fun project overall. Now I have to locate a 1000-3000 series firebox. Other than that most of the parts are still available and luckily I have a couple of welder friends to help me with the cart frame. After reading some of the reviews and recommendations I'll more than likely go with the flavorizer bar set from rcplanebuyer. His products definitely look top notch. The wood paneling on the pit will be another fun project. It's non original so I'm going to do some more research and see what works best.

Great news I think you're really going to like it, they are great grills.
I have rcplanebuyer SS flavorizer bars in my 1000 and they have been in there about six years or more. I did my spring cleaning on it the other day and the bars still look like new no wear or corrosion at all.

FYI I'm waiting for a call back on this one, I've never seen one in this area before. I might be doing the same as you shortly.

I thought you had a moratorium on new grills Rich. What are you going to have to give up:)? Good luck with that. Just wondering.

That one is nice! That whole pit looks like it's in great shape! Nice find!

Shhh....Barb isn't aware of my soon to be new project. I've decided to sell my Ducane and I'm going to swap out the whole tub assembly from my green 1000LX into the 3000 and put the 3000 tub assembly into the 1000LX frame and sell it also. Should only have to sleep in the garage for a week or so.

Rich, that sounds like a great trade out. And you will have a great time on those rehabs. Have fun.

You do know that the grill is not complete? It is missing the flip up side table on the left side.

I wound up picking it up. It's in really great shape. Just needs a little tlc. So excited to get to work on this project. It'll be a few days before I get to it. Threw my back out yesterday, of all days, on my wedding day. Go figure lol. Rich if I run into one I'll be sure to let you know.

That flip up table is ridiculously pricey from both weber and eparts. I ended up finding one on eBay for my genesis 1000. I think it was 40 bucks with shipping. Still not cheap. I'm glad I did it though. That table is pretty useful. I use it more often than I thought I would.
