Gen 2 EX4 grate question

Look at the photos in the link below. The grates there appear to be stainless steel, but we learned later that they are nickel plated steel:

I see the pictures, but everything I have read is that those grates are nickel-chrome plated regular steel. Is there more info?
Even if they are not stainless, the good news is that there are plenty of excellent stainless (or cast iron!) grates made for the Spirit 300 and earlier "classic" Genesis grills (x000/Silver/Gold) that will fit perfectly in the EX4 for the lower grate. So, a good upgrade path is there when you need it. The upper grate will hopefully last longer, but if you have to replace it, there are some interesting options such as diamond pattern high grade steel typical of large smokers.
