Geek Squad Protection Question

Three years ago, I bought a Mitsubishi LT-46265 (it's a 46" 1080 with a refresh rate of 240) beautiful picture great sound (when you crank it up) I paid $2400 (plus tax) and that included a 3-year warrantee

That warrantee is up next week. If I want to continue the warrantee, it's $405 for another 3 years through Geek Squad

My question is: Is Geek Squad any good? I've never used them for anything, the TV has been bullet proof (knock on wood)
And my concern is: Will Best Buy even be around in 3 years? (I assume no Best Buy, no Geek Squad)

If anyone has some thoughts, let me know

Chuck

I've had two computers fixed by them (virus problem) and both times I was very disapointed. They installed all kinds of software that wasn't ask for or needed to fix the problem. I was given an estimate for $120 and the bill was $435 on a $350 dollar laptop. After I raised holy hell they agreed to take out the unneeded software and it took another week to get it back. Just make sure you get a firm price and anything above that has to be approved by you before they do it. They will try to pad the bill.
The other one was about the same story. I now use another company for any service on my PCs.

Fyi this is Rich I'm using Barbs laptop.

I'm not sure if the geek squad is only through BB, I just bought a Dell desktop from Dell and it came with a free 90 day virus protection. When it expired it was the geek squad that contacted me to renew it.

You can buy a brand new 46" TV for $405. That is, assuming your current one breaks. If you need to go with a 240 refresh rate, you'll spend a little more. Again, that is only if your current TV breaks. If it were me (and it isn't), I'd hold onto my $405. I don't have any personal experience with Geek Squad, and from what I've heard about them, I don't plan to.

Just for giggles I checked to see what I can get and for $1K you can get a lot of TV, probably better than my 3-year old $2.4K TV

That said, I'm gonna go with your advice and keep my $405

Thanks Jim & Rich
