Gaps in Door Assembly

When I finished assembling my new 18.5 WSM (yay) I noticed gaps in the top of the door assembly. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do about it? I'm concerned with the gaps allowing smoke to leak out and making temp control a bit more challenging.

I am pretty new to smokling and the WSM as well (just got mine about 4-5 weeks ago). BUT I read a LOT about it first. like tons. like to the point my wife thought I had lost my mind doing research.

Anyway - the one thing I read over and over (including on here) is that very thing. That many people had to "form" the door a bit on their own, do so post purchase shaping and bending.

I thnk it will come down to a few things:

1) As noted above, you can try to bend it some where needed - you may be able to seal it up some that way
2) Once you use it a few times, it will start to seal itself with the greases and oils and smoke etc.
3) There are after market doors available, I think Cajun Bandit is the one I have seen mentioned the most:

4) You can buy sealing tape etc. I am not as familair with the best place to get this etc, but if you search on this place or others there are threads about it
here is an example:

Personally my door did not seem to leak that much (if really at all) and now that i have 3-4 smokes I think it is even better. I might of just gotten lucky though.

It is part of the strategy. It took a few weeks but I was able to turn her
"You want to buy what????"
comments into
"Would you just go and buy it already, I'm sick of you asking me, the neighbors, the mailman and the dog if the 18.5" cardboard circle looks large enough to hold 3 chickens"

I do tend to over analyze, but then again it was (for me ) a major purchase. I don't think she minded the research as much as it was all I seemed to do for a few weeks. but oh well, it helped move me to getting a WSM so must of done something right.

I didn't do any analysis when I purchased my first WSM. As far as I knew, there wasn't any brand, other than Weber. lol To make it really easy, I don't think they hag anything other than the 18.5 either. :)

No need to be concerned about the smoke leaking out, but if it's affecting temp control then yes - I'd address it.

Run through a few cooks and re-evaluate. As the WSM gets seasoned, it will start to seal up any gaps.
