Free Red Head Curb Alert!

I wish I had found this hobby during COVID. Instead I did stupid stuff, like painting every room in our house, landscaping, tree removal and hiking. And a good amount of smoking meats with the snake method on my performer. Oh, and a fair amount of alcohol consumption sitting in the driveway.

I was fortunate enough to keep my job, and with buses not running, my boss didn't care when I came or went so long as I got my 40 in. So there were a lot of times I would come in at 2-am and leave whenever, sometimes 10, sometimes 2pm. I was quite lucky from that standpoint.

I am working on trading out a blue lid for a red or grey (black mica) lid for a silver A. I am trying to have a Blue SSP, Blue Platinum and a Blue Silver A... if I get the blue lid silver A, I may make an attempt at building an SS frame for it, to match the platinum. *edit* that would be a few years down the road!

You would trade a Mica Black lid for a blue lid?

Questions?
How do you all restore a partially rusted frame. Do you all wire wheel it with a cup brush? Do you all sand it with palm sander? How do you all go about stripping it and prepping it for paint?

This is a good example of what you might be talking about. A rust spot on top of the frame that will be very visible if it isn't dealt with properly. I usually start by grinding it down with a flap disc in my angle grinder. Then you need to sand down the surrounding paint so that the new paint blends in with the old otherwise it will be very noticeable as a low spot.IMG_20250408_210606794.jpg

Steve,
What grit flap disc do you use?
I don't even know. I've been using the one that came with the angle grinder but I need to buy a new one as it's pretty worn out between working on grills and using it to sharpen my lawnmower blade. You could use a wire wheel and a sander to get the same result. I hand sand the surrounding paint to blend it.

On rust such as steve posted, I just hit it with an orbital sander and then hand sand to blend it in. A drill and wire brush or angle grinder and wire cup brush for corners or larger areas, then the orbital and hand sanding. Then I always hit those repaired areas with Rustoleum Rust reformer before painting the entire frame.
