You're going to leave the wire rack in the bottom. That condiment rack will complement it very well. Kind of ties the two together and gives them both cohesiveness. Obviously I'm a wood fanatic and that's my first choice but if you put the bottom wire rack and the condiment rack together that's a really good combination
Yes Josh,
The 1st time I ever saw it done was here and I liked it ever since.

I also liked the one you did Josh.

I rubbed off some of the pollen off the frame to see what was underneath. Appears to have some bubbled paint and surface rust on the frame around the firebox, but no gaping holes. This seems manageable.

Yah, some of that rust on the frame might be deep, but hopefully when you clean it up and hit it with a grinder, you will pleasantly surprised. That "gunk" on the back lip of the lid is gonna be just that "Gunk". No worries there.

Thanks Bruce, for the bode of confidence on the back lip of the lid, because I was disappointed when I saw that in my pic. At least I want the lid to come out in good shape.

How do you all clean CI grates. I'm SS guy and the CI ones on this grill look salvageable. I scraped all the grease off with a metal scouring pad. Here are1000 grill grates in my Platinum. Should I fire them up one at a time or as is and scrape again and then season or do you all wash them at all. Forgive me I have do not have much experience with CI grill grates.

I would look at getting the surface sanded and treated and then get the frame internally with this stuff https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-plus-with-nozzle.html
It works miracles

Bruce,
Looks like the lid end caps are the same as the ones you sent me. Although yours I think are in better shape. None the less I am digging that I will have another set.

Yes, those are the same. Those should strip fairly easily as that factory finish looks compromised entirely. A trip to the sand blaster would be a good option as well.

Gave the Grease tray the once over. It has a bad corner and little rough on the ends but it works. Do not get me wrong I am just happy this grill came with one!

Here is my stash of Gen 1k shelf parts. Steve you can see here what I am missing. Here is also all that is left on the frame. I thought there were 2 swing out slat shelf metal pieces but I did not find what I thought I had. Is this true?

Yep I believe that's the newer style with the slide vs the older style like yours with the hook manually raising and lowering. I could be wrong maybe it was just lower model to higher model vs newer to older.

The slides are really nice though

The only thing better about the hook style is that you can use them on either the left side or the right side universally. The slide style you need a dedicated left slide and a dedicated right slide for each side. They will be stamped with an R or an L to signify.

The right side slides are very hard to find because most of the flip tables were left side. Not many came with right side flip tables in comparison.
