Free Range vs. the other chicken

I bought a Purdue chicken last week. Cooked it on the WSM. This chicken was dissapointing. It wasn't the method it was the chicken! I will never buy one of these birds again.

I will stick to the local grown chickens from Lancaster County PA, or free range organic brands like Bell & Evans or even kosher Empire brand.

Does anyone else notice the commercial chickens lack flavor? They're fattier and just don't taste that good.

I think Kosher actually has an edge of free range. I use Kosher to make soup stock, and you never get any scum when you boil them. The color is nice golden yellow and the flavor is great.

I bought six free range turkeys this year. They were very good, no processing at all, to the point it was even labeled 'minimally'. They also were a bargain at $.97 a pound.

TJ's is now carrying Kosher chicken, beef and whole turkey. They have a couple of brands, Glatt and Aaron's Best. Empire is strictly at the Kosher market here in town, and usually more expensive there.
